historical site
In the wetter periods of its history the willow and reed marsh land was home to succession of early Britons. In places the peat deposit is over 35m deep and contains interesting archaeological features including at least one submerged trackway dating to 1775BC and earlier submerged willow causeway to the south east of the site. In modern history the land has been drained for agriculture and was surrounded by small settlements.
