Otter Spotter UK app
Why have we launched the Otter Spotter UK app? Although we are told that otters are doing well in the UK, we also know that otter cubs are still being brought to rescue centres on a regular basis in some parts of England. We also know that although the American mink is not as common as it used to be it is still present and the water vole, although recovering is still under threat. Furthermore, the climate is changing, and England’s rivers are some of the most polluted in Europe! How will these changes affect the populations of otters and water voles?
Things usually happen when we are not looking, and in such scenarios common species can rapidly become uncommon. You only need look at the demise of the passenger pigeon in the United States for evidence of this. The last census of otters in the UK was completed in 2010 so now is the time to act. |
